In 1)-a)
above, you mentioned that NCS homes may receive C&S channels
without a valid connection. In the post-DAS scenario what if, in similar fashion, a
current C&S-Analog home continues to receive C&S channels – but without a
STB?
The DAS notification has mandated that from November 1
st
2012,
C&S channels
can be legally received in the MC areas of the four major metros only through a
STB.
We will follow the rule analogous to the one we currently use for NCS described
in 1 a) above. Data for C&S channels received by a TV set without a STB in the
DAS-specified areas will all be clubbed and reported together under the ‘Others’
group. This is for data beginning Thursday, November 1, 2012 that falls within
TAM data week 44.
To understand this better, take the case of two multi-TV households in a DAS-
specified area. Each of the homes has three TV sets with different modes of
channel reception. Both the homes’ modes of reception are identical on October
31, 2012
but ‘TV home B’ replaces the existing analog mode with a digital mode
on November 1, 2012 unlike ‘TV home A’.
Tables 2a-c below describe the homes’ reception-mode status and the way data
from the homes will be reported for October 31, 2012 (DAS deadline date) and
November 1, 2012 (first day of the DAS-effective period).
