III. FAQs on DAS
1)
What kind of audiences does TAM report data on?
Currently TAM reports viewing data for individuals belonging to three types of
TV-owning homes; type being based on the mode of reception of TV channels:
a) Non-Cable and Satellite (NCS)
Audiences in this group receive TV channels through an ordinary terrestrial
antenna. They do not have a (valid) cable, DTH or IPTV connection. They
receive two channels - ‘DD1 (national)’
2
and ‘DD News‘. Some of these homes
may even receive C&S channels but this is due to irregular modes of reception
e.g. their transmission wires are close enough to another C&S connection for
the C&S channels ‘to be caught’. Viewership data of such C&S channels,
received by an invalid mode, are not reported individually but are grouped
together and classified as ‘Others‘.
b) Cable and Satellite – Analog (C&S Analog)
These audiences receive C&S channels from a cable operator without the need
of a Set-Top Box (STB). There is a direct cable from the operator running into
the TV set.
c)
Cable and Satellite – Digital (C&S Digital)
These audiences receive C&S channels through a STB. The source of channels
could be an authorized cable, DTH or IPTV provider. TAM has been
reporting data from Digital TV Homes since 2007 and reporting it as a
separate analysis group (under “Digital C&S”) for users from 2008.
2)
How does TAM classify a household which has more than one TV set (multi-TV
set home) and may receive TV channels in different modes on different TV sets?
The hierarchy of reporting in ascending order is defined as NCS
C&S Analog
C&S Digital. Table 1 below summarizes the possibilities and the classification
of the home by TAM.

The regional time-band telecast on DD1 is reported under the channel of the associated Kendra.
